One of the first recordings I ever did, up for posterity.
Who are all these faces in the crowd?
I can feel the darkness looking down
One is at the organ
And some are in the choir
And I can hear them whispering
Their only true desire
You won't escape the stained glass doors,
They’re locked from the inside
Now the weak are sure to prosper
While the strong ones run and hide
You won’t forget the things you’ll see
Or like the things you’ll hear
So grab a pew and see this through
While your spirit disappears
Where are all the friends I used to know?
I can feel my heartbeat start to slow
The air still smells of sulfur
The church bells ring my name
So let your heart grow colder
‘Cause if it’s all the same
Where are all the monsters in the room?
I know I'm not the only one who feels them too
They hide behind your smiles
And dress up in your skin
But just beneath the surface
They’re uglier than sin
